Who brought hip-hop to Egypt?
Omar Boflot is Egypt's most famous hip-hop artist and pioneer of the genre. He began his career as a rapper in 1995 in Ghana, where he joined the Patty Riddaz (“party riders”) crew. The group won huge popularity thanks to their appearances in “fun world” program on Ghana TV. They represented a completely new sound, which met with enthusiastic audience reactions. In 1998, Boflot returned to Egypt, where he met Yassin Zahran aka 9 Miles. Their friendship and close collaboration resulted in the creation of Y-Crew. They began by rapping in English and French, but in 2000 decided to use Arabic instead. The people wanted to listen to rap in a language they would know, understand, and feel close to. This was a milestone in our careers – Boflot explains. Initially, he recorded his albums himself and released them online. He now works with Fredwreck, a producer who has collaborated with hiphop stars including Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre. One of the reasons behind Boflot's popularity was his victory in the first edition of HipHopNa program on MTV Arabia.

Boflot is also an R&B singer, sound engineer and music producer promoting young talent, and helping rap artists with their breakthrough on Egypt's hiphop scene. Boflot claims he wants to “spread the hip hop contagion”. I see it as my life's mission – he states with a smile.
The concert is organized in collaboration with Stołeczna Estrada, the organizer of Warsaw Cross-Culture Festival.
