Tony Gatlif, director of cult films Exils, Vengo and Gadjo Dilo, will be a special guest at this year's festival
Tony Gatlif will come to Warsaw to present two films at this year’s festival – The Outraged (screened in a new section called „PLANETE+ DOC Special“) and Time for Outrage! (screened in a new section called “Faces of Revolution”).

The Algierian filmmaker attended the school of life on French streets and in correction centers. His initial contact with cinema served a purely utilitarian purpose – it was a means to protect himself from the cold and bad weather. He owes his love for cinema to a teacher who would hold weekly screenings for his students. The films he presented inspired reflections and discussions.

In 1975 Gatlif began making his own films. Six years later, after he had left Spain and developed a fascination for Roma and Sinti culture, came a breakthrough in his career and appreciation of critics and audiences alike. “Les Princes” was Gatlif’s first film to receive wide recognition, but he owes his popularity to titles such as „Gadjo Dilo“, „Vengo“, „Exils“ (2004 Grand Prix Best Director Award in Cannes) and „Transylvania“.

In both films featured in this year’s PLANETE+ DOC program, Gatlif inspects one of the most burning social issues of 2011, i.e. the Outraged movement. Gatlif’s main source of inspiration was the 13-page essay “Time for Outrage” written by Stéphane Hessel, a 93-year-old veteran of the French La Resistance movement, diplomat and spiritual father of the Outraged, who urges his readers to question the existing social system.

We invite you to attend screenings of both films, a Q&A session with Tony Gatlif hosted by Jakub Majmurek from Krytyka Polityczna (“Political Critique”) periodical, following the screening of Time for Outrage! on Tuesday, May 15 at 9 PM as well as a debate “March, March Indignados!” following the screening of The Outraged in Luna on Monday, May 14 at 6 PM.
