Attend the masterclass taught by Austrian filmmakers: director Michael Glawogger and cinematographer Wolfgang Thaler

On May 14, Austrian filmmaker Michael Glawogger and his long-time collaborator Wolfgang Thaler will hold a masterclass in Warsaw’s Kinoteka. The meeting will be moderated by Michał Chaciński – journalist for Polish TV’s Culture channel TVP Kultura, art director of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

Glawogger and Thaler’s latest film Whores’ Glory, which received a special Orizzonti Jury Prize at the 2011 Venice IFF, will be screened in the main competition, vying for the Millennium Award. It will also compete for the Canon Cinematography Award, which is the only award of this type at a European documentary film festival.

Michael Glawogger – born 1959 in Graz, Austria. Documentary filmmaker, film writer and cinematographer, considered one of the most prominent documentary filmmakers at the turn of the 21st century. His most famous work the cinematic “work trilogy” on globalization and relations between humans and their home environments (Megacities, 1999, Workingman’s Death, 2004 and Whore’s Glory, 2011). He has also made feature-films, including a screen adaptation of Josef Haslinger’s novel Das Vaterspiel (2009). His films are notable for high-quality imagery (result of long-time collaboration with cinematographer Wolfgang Thaler) and very accurate, impressive soundtracks. Glawogger’s work has benefited from the talent of such musicians as John Zorn (Workingman’s Death), PJ Harvey and CocoRosie (Whore’s Glory). His films are very sensual, escaping simple interpretations.

The 3-hour masterclass will be supplemented with screenings of all three parts of the „work trilogy”: Megacities, Workingman’s Death, and Whore’s Glory.

The masterclass is co-organized with MEDIA Desk Polska.

Masterclass partners include: Canon, Andrzej Wajda Film School, Polish Society of Cinematographers and FilmPro magazine.
