Academic Conference at PLANETE+ DOC

We invite you to participate in the academic conference "Between Tradition and Mockumentary. The Incidents of Contemporary Documentary"
PLANETE+ DOC FILM FESTIVAL, Kinematograf and Psychologia Filmu ("Film Psychology)Student Clubs from the Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS) invite Planete Doc audiences to participate in the Interdisciplinary Academic Conference "Between Tradition and Mockumentary.The Incidents of Contemporary Documentary Cinema".

The conference will be held in Warsaw (in SWPS and Kinoteka cinema) between May 18-19, 2012, as part of the 9th edition of PLANETE+ DOC FILM FESTIVAL. We invite participants from diverse academic disciplines with an interest in documentary cinema, including undergraduate and graduate students, PhD candidates, academic faculty and representatives of other research or cultural institutions. The conference will analyze the specifi character and condition of contemporary documentary cinema, where "contemporary" is understood as films made after the year 1990. The conference formats will include screenings and thematic panel discussions.

We suggest any the following subject areas:
- contemporary documentary - traditional or innovative;
- the amount of documentary in contemporary documentary cinema (between documenting and pre-arranging);
- contemporary documentary in view of documentary film traditions;
- concepts of "truth" and "fiction" in contemporary documentary cinema;
- most prominent contemporary documentary filmmakers;
- the impact of film on audiences in the context of documentary cinema;
- social and political engagement of contermporary documentary filmmakers.

Applications should be sent by March 1st via e-mail to: kino.swps@gmail.com. Applicants who have been accepted will be informed by April 1st.

Applications should include:
- the applicant's full name,
- academic title/degree,
- contact information (phone, e-mail and stationary address),
- name of pertinent institution (for universities - also name of faculty/institute or major)
- suggested title for the applicant's presentation
- abstract (80-100 words).

Anticipated conference fee: 60 PLN for undergraduate and graduate students, 110 PLN for PhD candidates and 160 PLN for academic faculty. The conference fee covers the cost of dinner, coffee buffet and conference materials. Bank account number for conference fee payments will be sent to applicants whose proposals have been accepted.Participation in the conference on an audit-basis is free of charge.
We intend to publish selected conference papers.
