With “Jig”, acclaimed filmmaker Sue Bourne goes deep into the little known and often misunderstood world of Irish dancing. Her film tells the remarkable stories of some of the thousands of dancers who spend years of incredibly hard work preparing for a few expectation-filled moments on stage at the World Irish Dancing Championships. Travelling from the Netherlands, Russia, Ireland and the UK, these aspiring world champions, their coaches, teachers and families descend on Glasgow for one drama-fuelled week of dance competition. Beneath the costumes, wigs and fake tans live human studies of dedication and drive, bordering on obsession. “Jig” presents a fascinating look at talents pushed to their limits in the quest for perfection, recognition and a coveted world title.
