Gunnar is an attentive father of a middle-class Norwegian family. At first glance, he seems to have it all:fulfilling family life, a comfortable house with a big backyard, a car and high-quality equipment. Although he seems to have nothing to worry about, he is far from being happy with himself. Anything can be bought for money in this comfortable and neatly organized world, but the ubiquitous lack of spirituality becomes unbearable in the long run...

The lack of an absolute breeds anxiety, while the feeling of spiritual burn-out leads to inner bankruptcy. In consequence, change becomes inevitable. Gunnar decides to go to the first Christian monastery in Egypt, where he wants to regain his lost spirituality. It is here that he and his three friends, who are also his film crew, he wishes to search for answers to questions that trouble him. But is this lifestyle what Gunnar, who lives in a material world of consumption really needs?
