Competitions


The Magic Hour Award

This year 12 films will compete for the Magic Hour Award and EUR 4,000 in prize money in the competition for documentaries under 70 minutes. Films will be judged by a jury, consists of: Martichka Bozhilova, Esteban Bernatas, Valery Balayan. The award is funded by the Polish Film Institute.

Jury

Valery Balayan

A member of the Union of cinematographers of the Russian Federation. A member of Guild of non-featuring film. A member of Guild of film writers of Russia. Graduated: Leningrad university of economy and the finance (1982), The High Courses of scriptwriters and directors - the playwright of non-featuring film (1986), The High Courses of scriptwriters and directors the director of non-featuring film (1989.) Under Valery Balayan's scripts it is removed more than 40 documentary cinemas and television movies.


Martichka Bozhilova

Degree in Law and Art Management. Graduate in European Documentary Production from EURODOC 2005) has been producer of AGITPROP since 1999. Her films include the internationally awarded creative documentaries Georgi and the Butterflies (Silver Wolf Award, IDFA 2004), The Mosquito Problem and other stories (World Premiere: Cannes 2007; Grierson Award, London Film Festival 2007; Grand Prize, Sunny Side of the Doc 2008), Corridor #8 (World Premiere: Berlinale 2008 – FORUM, Ecumenical Jury Award; HOTDOCS 2008 - HBO Documentary Film Emerging Artist Award), as well as See You at the Eiffel Tower which premiered at IDFA 2008 – Reflecting Images Panorama. She is one of the producers of the first BG omnibus film 15. The short fiction film Omelette produced within 15 won Honorable Mention at Sundance 2009. She is also producer of the first original Bulgarian productions for HBO, Concrete Pharaohs and Paradise Hotel.

Esteban Bernatas

Documentary Producer and Art Book publisher. He was born in Barcelona in 1973, where he actually lives. He studied at the Fine Art School in Nantes between 1996 and 2001. In 2002 he created the Fundació 30km/s dedicated to develop projects by young contemporary artists.
In 2005 he founded the production company Andoliado and produces the documentary film Apaga y vámonos (Switch off) directed by Manel Mayol. The film follows a Spanish Transnational Electric Company in Chile and how they flooded Mapuche indigenous lands in the Andes mountains. Participating in more than 70 international festivals the film got six prizes. Theatrically released in Spain, France (Cinema Utopia) and Germany. Broadcasted in Poland and UK.
