Synopsis

On May 5, 2005, Beverly Charpentier declared an oath of allegiance to older French woman Catherine Robbe-Grillet, thereby giving up her freedom for the rest of her life. In and around Catherine's villa, the pair speak openly about their special relationship. Beverly is Catherine's property: materially, mentally and physically. She defends, supports and protects her mistress, even if this is to her own detriment. She acts as her interpreter, driver and bodyguard, all rolled into one. Beverly even has to discuss with Catherine the type of cutlery to be used at dinner. Although Beverly has never been attracted to women, Catherine is her idealized, unattainable love. Catherine's sexual morals are very free, and in Beverly she has found the perfect servant. They express their love for one another in ritualized, slightly erotic role-play, wearing old-fashioned clothing. And this love runs deep. "I could well say that Catherine is my life. I've got my children, yet Catherine is something different."
