In the centre of the old Jerusalem lays the heart of Christianity: the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Since the death of Jesus Christ, Christians have used this place for their pilgrimages. And since then, this is the place for an inner-Christian conflict that has both paradox and fanatical traits. Almost every group within Christianity has claimed the place for itself by building a niche here. To add to the confusion, the groups do not respect each other’s holiest relics making it impossible to coordinate essential maintenance and reparation works. This spectacle starts afresh every day and always seems near an eruption.
As Father Samuel, Prior of the Armenian community, defends his brothers` rank in the pecking order with ploy and passion. Patriarch Theophilos III., on the other hand, is content: his Greek-Orthodox monks rule over the house as if they were in sole reign. Abdilkadr Joudeh and Wajeeh Nusseibeh lock the door in the morning and at night. They keep out of all this - they are Muslim. Nevertheless, they endlessly argue over the question which job is more prestigious: to hold the key or to actually turn it. Insightful and nevertheless entertaining observation on the fact that faith is a very human matter.
