Synopsis

For the first time in history, a generation of donor-conceived children are old enough to go looking for their biological parents. Donor Unknown follows the story of JoEllen Marsh as she goes in search of the father she has only ever known as Donor 150. Now 20, JoEllen grew up in Pennsylvania with two mothers and a curiosity to know more about her anonymous donor father. When she discovers a unique online registry that connects donor-conceived children, she manages to track down a half-sister in New York. The New York Times picks up the story, and over time 12 more half-siblings emerge across the United States. The New York Times article also falls into the hands of Jeffrey Harrison as he is sitting in a cafe by the beach in Los Angeles. Jeffrey now lives with four dogs and a pigeon with a broken wing in a broken-down camper in a Venice Beach parking lot. Back in the 1980s, he was a dancer struggling to survive, and he paid the rent by becoming a sperm donor at the California Cryobank. His profile as Donor 150 made him very popular, and his sperm donations were FedExed all across the United States. Donor Unknown follows the story of the meeting between Jeffrey, JoEllen and the other siblings, and the relationships that are developing in this uniquely 21st century family.
